"Popular gipsy folk-song well-known in the Balkans. It has many different covers, most notably the romani version Ederlezi, which was featured in Kusturica's movie The Time of the Gypsies (Dom za vešanje), and the Serbo-Croatian version of the former Yugoslav rock band Bijelo Dugme, called Đurđevdan.
Magdi Ruzsa, a Hungarian girl born in Vojvodina, Serbia knew this song very well, and she chose to sing it in the Hungarian Idol, called Megasztár in 2006. She sang the Đurđevdan version in Hungarian and Serbian (Hungarian lyrics were written by her mother) to show her multicultural background and to convey a message about how different cultures can or should live together accepting each other instead of judging each other. The Hungarian audience was deeply moved by the powerful performance and she went on to win the Megasztár.
(The reason of why this cover called Ederlezi instead of Đurđevdan is because the task in Megasztár required a song from a movie and in the movie The Time of the Gypsies this song went under the title Ederlezi)."
